My Recommended Utilities Supplier

I have spoken to a number of utilities brokers. The Business Advisory Service would appear to me to be the safest bet.

I have dealt with a number of them over the years and am familiar with the way they all operate.

In simple terms:

  • The way in which utilities should be purchased if a company is to do it effectively is complicated. They have experience of the business and will know not only which tarrif to put a company on but also (more importantly) which type of tarrif.
  • They have vastly greater buying power than even most "large" companies.

As a consequence they can obtain for their clients a much lower price than their client could ever achieve on their own.

They make their money by adding a small percentage to the price they achieve.

The Potential Savings

It is not unusual for such companies to reduce utility bills by 70%

Offer to Romsey Chamber

They have several different business models that they offer to introducers. At one end of the scale they offer a very high commission to introducers, and they make a significant mark up themselves.

The model they have proposed to me is for a very small mark-up and we would take 25% of that. The estimate is that this would probably give the chamber an income of about £100 per year per SME taking up the offer.

This Broker

Currently includes amongst it clients, The Telegraph Business Club - on the same model we would be on, and in another area - The MOD.

It is difficult to assess which brokers are the best but in the same spirit that "Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM" I suggest we run with them.
